This is something I've only managed to get to work recently, after I put an old hard disk in a new machine Windows always failed to boot - giving a blue screen on startup and failing to find the system disk. The trick is to set your IDE interface driver to the generic IDE device before you take the hard drive out of the old machine. Read more here:
